We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Proclamation

Governor Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Governor David M. Apatang recently honored the first responders that sacrificed their lives on September 11, 2001, and the brave men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis to keep the community safe in a proclamation designating September 2023 as “  “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes” month. 

Expanding Workforce Capacity

Governor Arnold Palacios and Lt. Governor David Apatang were joined recently by CNMI Department of Labor Secretary in meeting with the U.S. Department of Labor District Director of the Wage & Hour Division Terence J. Trotter, the U.S. Department of Labor Assistant District Director for Guam and the CNMI Patrick G. Candoleta, and the U.S. Department of Labor Wage & Hour Division Investigator Feng Daniel Wang to sign a memorandum of understanding. 

Guam Mayors Thank CNMI for Relief Goods

Five mayors from the Mayor’s Council of Guam presented Governor Arnold I. Palacios a  resolution expressing their “sincerest appreciation and gratitude for the generosity and kindness of the people of Saipan and the CNMI in coming to [Guam’s] aid after the devastation of Typhoon Mawar.” 

Law Enforcement Agencies Ink Agreement to Re-establish and Reorganize Joint Drug Prevention Task Force

The leaders of six law-enforcement agencies recently inked an agreement to reestablish and reorganize a joint-drug-prevention-task force. Drugs, specifically ice, have continued to negatively impact the CNMI. Agencies are seeing more cases of drug use especially in younger people, an increase in property crimes linked to the habit, and other crimes. The goal of the joint task force is to stop drugs from coming in through the CNMI’s ports.

Child Care Providers Attend the Health and Safety Training on Building and Physical Premises Safety

On July 22, 2023, four (4) ongoing and four (4) new teachers attended a two-hour health and safety training on Building and Physical Premises Safety including identification and protection from hazards that can cause bodily injury such as electrical hazards, bodies of water and vehicular traffic. This remote training was facilitated by Evergreen Learning Quality Care Specialist, Maricar Peña.   

FEMA Expands Typhoon Mawar Relief Assistance

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently approved the CNMI’s  requests for additional Typhoon Mawar relief and funding assistance for permanent work for Saipan, Rota, and Tinian. In addition to emergency protective measures, the additional categories of assistance now include permanent work activities that include restoration of roads, water control facilities, buildings, equipment, utilities, parks, and other facilities.

Northern Marianas International School Empowers Child Development with “Mind in the Making” Training Modules

As part of its efforts to foster child development in the CNMI, Northern Marianas International School (NMIS) recently facilitated a workshop to cover the “Mind in the Making” Training Modules. These modules, developed to enhance crucial cognitive abilities in children, cover the Seven Essential Life Skills: Focus and Self Control, Perspective Taking, Communicating, Making Connections, Critical Thinking, Taking on Challenges, and Self-Directed and Engaged Learning.

Empowering the Youth, Shaping the Future

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
