Proclamation – Older Americans Month – May 2023

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands includes a growing number of older Americans who contribute their time, wisdom, and experience to our community; and 

WHEREAS, communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands recognizes the need to create a community that offers the services and supports older adults may need to make choices about how they age; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands can work to build an even better community for our older residents by:

  • Not limiting our thinking about aging,
  • Exploring and combating stereotypes,
  • Emphasizing the many positive aspects of aging,
  • Inspiring older adults to push past traditional boundaries, and
  • Embracing our community’s diversity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD I. PALACIOS, Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, AND, I, DAVID M. APATANG, Lt. Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands by virtue of the authority vested in us by the Constitution and Laws of the Commonwealth, do hereby proclaim May 2023 as

OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

We urge every resident to celebrate our older citizens, help to create an inclusive society and accept the challenge of flexible thinking around aging.

Empowering the Youth, Shaping the Future

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
