One positive case of COVID-19

The Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC) would like to inform the public that one (1) additional individual has been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Within the recently identified community cluster, a total of 11 individuals have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

This brings the total COVID-19 count for the CNMI to 157 individuals since March 28, 2020.

The individual was first identified through expanded contact tracing connected to several individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was confirmed positive for the virus on Wednesday. The individual is safely in quarantine and is asymptomatic. All positive cases and close contacts have been safely isolated from the community.

The immediate response by the COVID-19 Task Force and the use of state-of-the-art tools and techniques by the CHCC contact tracing and laboratory team allowed for rapid containment and protection for the community.

The COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC continue their expanded contact tracing investigation. Contact tracing will continue to identify high-risk contacts and to isolate them away from the community.

At this time, the COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC are not seeing widespread community transmission. The concern right now is providing care to the individuals and potential individuals exposed to COVID-19. Early identification will continue to help in protecting the CNMI.

As the COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC continue to investigate, all CNMI residents are reminded to be cautious when interacting with others outside of their immediate household.

Take actions to protect yourself and your loved ones.

  • Wash your hands. Watch your distance. Wear a mask.
  • Practice proper hand-hygiene to minimize the spread of the virus.
  • Get vaccinated for COVID-19 when it is available to you.
    • Vaccination helps to prevent individuals in getting severely sick from COVID-19 should you be exposed.

This is an evolving situation, and updates will be made available as the COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC continue to confirm results and information as part of this investigation.

The CNMI is reminded to watch out for misinformation and to follow updates directly from the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC). The spread of misinformation is just as dangerous as the virus itself.

Updates from the COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts @governorcnmi and @cnmichcc, as well as through CNMI media partners.
