Guam Mayors Thank CNMI for Relief Goods

Five mayors from the Mayor’s Council of Guam presented Governor Arnold I. Palacios a  resolution expressing their “sincerest appreciation and gratitude for the generosity and kindness of the people of Saipan and the CNMI in coming to [Guam’s] aid after the devastation of Typhoon Mawar.” 

The mayors of Guam presented the resolution in a meeting with the Governor, Lt. Governor and Department of Corrections Commissioner Anthony Torres, who helped to lead the relief drive. 

The council members present included Mayor of Inarajan Anthony Chargualaf, Mayor of Agat Kevin Susuico, Mayor of Mongmong-Toto-Maite Rudy Paco, Vice Mayor of Barrigada Jesse P. Bautista, and Council President Mayor of Piti Jesse Alig, who read and presented the resolution.

Commissioner Torres gifted the municipality members with tea-leaf leis. The council members personally thanked Gov. Palacios, Lt. Gov. Apatang, Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho, Commissioner Torres and his team “for their immediate call to action and concern for our island.” The CNMI filled two forty-foot long containers with donated supplies worth more than $100,000. This included bottled water, non-perishable food items, portable stoves, emergency personal effects, [and] pillows and blankets. Commissioner Torres called the relief drive “a testament to the dedication, resilience, and unity demonstrated by the entire community…and a true reflection of the strong spirit of gratitude and camaraderie that exists within the Marianas.”

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
