Governor Palacios Accompanies Associate Director Sierra-Zorita, Deputy Assistant Secretary Nakoa, and Director of OIA Brewer to Kalabera Cave

Governor Arnold I. Palacios accompanied White House Intergovernmental Affairs Associate Director for Puerto Rico and Territories Gretchen Sierra-Zorita and newly appointed Director of Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) of the US Department of Interior John D. Brewer on a site visit to the Kalabera Cave, a project funded by the OIA as part of the CNMI’s capital improvement project for Economic Development.

Also joining Governor Palacios were Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Administrator Elizabeth S. Balajadia, CIP Project Manager Tim Lang, CIP Contracting Officer Technical Representative Nerissa B. Karakaya, and OIA Field Representative Harry C. Blanco.

Due to the weather and storms that have affected the Kalabera project since its completion several years ago, repairs and improvements needed to be made to ensure the safety of tourists and community members and to enhance and preserve the site and its rich history. Discussions and activities aimed at repairing and improving the site are currently underway.
