Celebrating Art and Culture

Over the weekend, residents and visitors alike celebrated the 42nd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival, which featured vibrant and impressive artwork of local and visiting artists as well as traditional performances representing the rich diversity of cultures in the CNMI.

Governor Arnold I. Palacios thanked the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture Acting Director (CCAC) Gloriana Teuira, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs (DCCA) Secretary Maggie Sablan, and the event sponsors for bringing back one of the island’s staple celebrations.

Governor Palacios and Lt. Governor David M. Apatang, joined by DCCA Secretary Maggie Sablan, also presented awards to the families of this year’s recognized artists, Poland Yamada, John Peter Lisua, Daniel Limes Laniyo, Alexander Wabol Limes, and Jacoba Merced Liaschem Rangamar Terlaje, for their contributions and dedication to the arts.

Along with this year’s artist tributes, CCAC and DCCA also presented awards to the event’s major sponsors and contributors: Gordon Marciano of Pacific Development Inc., Frankie Ada of Triple J, John K. Baldwin and Shawn A. Scott of Bridge Capital LLC., Shane Deleon Guerrero of Docomo Pacific, Hazel Sadian of Marianas Variety, Mayor of Saipan Ramon “RB” Blas Camacho, and the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor.

Empowering the Youth, Shaping the Future

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
