DYS awarded $1.3 million for child welfare and community services

Governor Ralph DLG. Torres and Lt. Governor Arnold I. Palacios announced on Tuesday that the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs (DCCA) Division of Youth Services (DYS) has received grant awards totaling $1,309,699 for child welfare and community services through the following:

One individual confirmed for COVID-19 through contact tracing

The Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC) announced on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, that one (1) individual has been confirmed positive for COVID-19, bringing the CNMI’s case count to 54.

Three individuals confirmed for COVID-19 upon arrival

The Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC) announced on Monday, August 17, 2020, that three (3) individuals have been confirmed positive for COVID-19, bringing CNMI’s current case count to 53 since March 28, 2020.

Schools permitted to reopen subject to approval and assessment of reopening plans

As a result of discussions between the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force, Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC), and education stakeholders from Northern Marianas College (NMC), Public School System (PSS), and the Commonwealth Coalition of Private Schools, Governor Ralph DLG. Torres announced on Thursday that schools are permitted to safely reopen subject to approval of reopening plans and assessment of facilities.

OVR awarded $86,000 in grant funding from USDA

The CNMI Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), under the Office of the Governor, announced on Monday that they have been officially awarded over $80,000 in grant funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for operations and assisting special needs individuals with employment opportunities.
