Finance announces partnership with Localgov to provide taxpayers easy and secure tax filing process

Saipan, MP – The Department of Finance, Division of Revenue & Taxation (DRT), is officially announcing a new partnership with Localgov, an online tax collection and compliance platform. The partnership will focus on transitioning the Commonwealth’s tax collection from a manual system to a streamlined and secure digital process.

Because of the current pandemic situation, DRT was searching for a solution that could digitize and simplify the manual tax collection operation.  DRT wanted to shorten lines and have less in-person contact while still providing service to taxpayers.

As of September 18, 2020, taxpayers are able to file and pay their Business Gross Revenue Tax, Bar Tax, and Hotel Occupancy Tax through Localgov’s user-friendly online portal on the official Department of Finance website www.dof.gov.mp.

Other developments coming soon are the online “Business License Application” portal and online payments for Excise Tax.

“Digital transactions are faster, more convenient, and are becoming the preferred method for citizens to access government services. Lt. Governor Arnold I. Palacios and I commend the Department of Finance, Division of Revenue and Taxation, for their hard work in moving the CNMI forward in online access and convenience for residents and businesses,” said Governor Ralph DLG. Torres.

From the comfort of their homes, CNMI taxpayers experience significant time-savings when using Localgov by eliminating travel, wait time, and repetitive paperwork. Localgov’s auto-filing feature saves taxpayer filing history, enabling quick automatic filings and 100% secure and traceable payments through ACH or credit card payments.

Business owners and taxpayers will be able to log on to the Localgov portal from any device and file their taxes. The Commonwealth will receive an immediate record of their filing while the software completes the transaction automatically. CNMI will receive payments of those funds daily.

“Our constituents will benefit from having a secure, transparent, and digital way to file and pay taxes. Localgov is working with Finance to cultivate trust and satisfaction among our community. We are proud to deliver a modern and easy-to-use service to our taxpayers,” said Secretary of Finance David DLG. Atalig.

With the support of DOF, Localgov is helping to build trusted relationships with local businesses and constituents that will bring the community together and give the CNMI tools to support economic growth.

“We are honored to partner with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to transform and digitalize their tax collection and compliance” said Localgov CEO Jason Perry.

“By taking the paper out of the process, Localgov can decrease the time it takes to collect taxes by up to 95% while supporting business satisfaction. With significant time and resources freed up, CNMI government leaders can put that time and energy back into growing their thriving community,” added Perry.
