Regional Leaders Converge on Saipan to Discuss Emergency Communications, Cybersecurity, and Broadband

Governor Ralph DLG. Torres on Thursday greeted and spoke to visiting delegations from Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the U.S. mainland representing regional governments, federal and state entities, and policy bodies throughout the Pacific who are meeting to discuss broadband, cybersecurity, and emergency communications. Governor Torres thanked them for coming together to share their respective challenges and opportunities in the spirit of collaboration for growth. 

State of the Commonwealth Address to be rescheduled

Governor Ralph DLG. Torres was originally set to deliver the 2022 State of the Commonwealth Address (SOCA) on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Kensington Hall, Kensington Hotel Saipan.

CCDF Child Care Providers attend Health and Safety Trainings

On Saturday, October 08, 2022, Saipan-based child care centers participated in two- hour trainings on required health & safety training topics, (1) Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Use of Safe Sleep Practices, and (2) Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome, Abusive Head Trauma, and Child Maltreatment. The trainings, conducted at the Evergreen Learning Training Center in Chalan Kanoa by Maricar I. Pena, Evergreen Learning’s Quality Care Specialist, had a total of twelve participants in the morning session and fourteen participants in the afternoon session.

The United States Department of the Interior – National Park Service has announced $1,901,200.00 in Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State Assistance funding to benefit the preservation and development of outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. 

Update on Fisheries Assistance Part 2

Proclamation – Domestic Violence Awareness Month – October 2022

WHEREAS, Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior that one intimate partner – current or former – uses to gain and maintain control over another. This abuse can occur in the form of physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, and economic control. Batterers often use multiple tactics such as isolation, intimidation, sexual, and physical assault, forced substance abuse, insults, threatening, and excessive monitoring to control and manipulate victims and survivors; and

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
