Child Care Providers Participate in Technology Training

On April 9, 2022, CNMI childcare providers under the CNMI Child Care & Development Fund (CCDF) attended a workshop entitled “Technology 101,” conducted by Ms. Paulette Failauga of Evergreen Learning, located in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan.

There were a total of 12 participants of various childcare programs throughout the CNMI in the training, with 2 providers from Tinian and 10 from Saipan.

The workshop was a two-part training, with one part focusing on basic to intermediate skills for Microsoft Word, a software primarily used for creating documents and media content needed in childcare programs. Throughout this first part, childcare providers were given a hands-on opportunity to develop and learn more on Microsoft Word, including a variety of ways to utilize the software to enhance efficiency and productivity through time-saving tips and shortcuts.

Providers were given a task to create a personalized newsletter for their program or classroom using different features of Microsoft Word. Newsletters are an efficient means of communication with families for the Reach Higher CNMI, Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) Star 1 requirements categorized under Family Engagement and Strengthening.

The purpose of the second part of this workshop was utilizing Google Apps, where providers were tasked to upload their newsletters and share them with others using Google Drive, the cloud-based storage solution that allows you to save and share files online and access them anywhere from any electronic device. Participants also got a chance to utilize Google Calendar to create online reminders and meeting invitations, as well as other scheduled events for themselves and others.
