Child Care Providers participate in training on Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning for Natural Disaster and Human-Caused Emergencies

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, seventeen child care providers from two child care centers across Saipan participated in a training on Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning for Natural Disasters and Human-caused Emergencies. The training was conducted by Maricar I. Pena, Evergreen Learning’s Quality Care Specialist, at Evergreen Learning’s training center in Chalan Kanoa.

These trainings are made possible through funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child Care, CNMI CCDF program under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

During the two-and-a-half-hour professional development opportunity, participants were able to identify the new federal requirements and health and safety standards for emergency preparedness and planning, define the different kinds of emergencies, articulate the importance of planning, identify natural disasters and human-caused events that should be addressed in emergency plans by CNMI childcare providers, explore the six steps of emergency planning, apply the new federal standard requirement in the review and revision of their current emergency plan, and also identify the current content list of EPRRP.

The Child Care Reauthorization Act of 2014 requires that all Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) Program child care providers must complete preservice training requirements in 12 health and safety topic areas before they are allowed to be left alone to supervise young children. The topics of Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning for Natural Disasters and Human-caused Emergencies meet two out of the 12 required training.
