The CNMI Office of Planning and Development (OPD) CNMI-Broadband Project in partnership with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) would like to inform the public on broadband assistance developments and updates.
As of May 2022, 2,913 households within the CNMI are signed up for the $30 subsidy per month for internet access under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which is almost a 20% increase of CNMI households who have signed up for this program in April 2022, when about 2,300 residents had signed up. An estimated 80-90% of all CNMI households are eligible for this program. According to OPD Director A. Kodep Ogumoro-Uludong, “making sure that we find and assist the many remaining households that can take advantage of this subsidy is a priority for CNMI-Broadband and consistent with our Sustainable Development Goals.”
In an effort to help residents navigate the sign up process for this program, the CNMI-Broadband Project will provide interested individuals with printed literature, informational brochures, and FAQs. Additionally, the CNMI-Broadband project welcomes interested organizations to set up an ACP sign up event, and training and support will be available in order to familiarize the organization with the process. Facilitated assistance from the FCC is also possible.
