PROCLAMATION – 2022 National Hospital Week – May 8-14, 2022

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands established the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation to maintain and improve health and sanitary conditions, to minimize and control communicable diseases, and to establish standards of medical and dental care for the people of the CNMI.

WHEREAS, the American Nursing Association’s 2022 theme, “Nurses Make a Difference,” aims to honor the varying roles of nurses and their positive impact on our lives. National Nurses Week is an opportunity to highlight our CNMI nurses who provide compassionate care for our community while continuing to improve the quality of health care services.

WHEREAS, the National Hospital Week is an opportunity to highlight our Commonwealth Health Center, Tinian Health Center, and Rota Health Center, and the more than 850 health care workers and the innovative ways they support the CNMI community.

WHEREAS, the American Hospital Association’s theme of “We are Health Care” recognizes the individuals who work in America’s hospitals and health systems and asks the public to join in this effort to help celebrate National Hospital Week by showing support to all health care workers.

WHEREAS, the health care workers of the CNMI not only met the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also continue to play a critical role in the CNMI’s COVID-19 response efforts while providing routine health care for the people of the CNMI.

WHEREAS, hospitals and nurses support the needs of patients and community.

WHEREAS, National Hospital Week is a time for everyone — individuals, employers, other health care professionals, community leaders and nurses — to recognize the positive impact that health care workers have on our families and friends.

WHEREAS, we are honored to celebrate the individuals who are working tirelessly to help others in their greatest time of need, especially during recent periods when the CNMI was experiencing COVID-19 surges.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, RALPH DLG. TORRES, Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the Commonwealth, do hereby proclaim May 8-14, 2022 as

NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK

I call upon all citizens of the Commonwealth to take an active interest in their health by visiting a doctor or nurse to receive regular check-ups and preventive screenings, staying active, and eating healthy.

Empowering the Youth, Shaping the Future

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
