Preserving the Past, Protecting the Future: Historic Preservation Month

Yesterday, Governor Arnold I. Palacios, joined by numerous CNMI officials, cultural organizations, and the CNMI Historic Preservation Office, officially proclaimed May 2025 as Historic Preservation Month with the theme, “Preserve the Past and Protect the Future.”

In his remarks, Governor Palacios stated, “In order to forge our future, we need to look back at our past.” He emphasized that historic preservation is more than just safeguarding artifacts — it embodies our identity through dances, songs, languages, and customs. The Governor highlighted that honoring the past strengthens community identity, fosters pride, and ensures that future generations can continue to experience and appreciate the rich history of the Northern Mariana Islands.
