For their outstanding contributions to the humanities in the CNMI, the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, along with its Director Leo Pangelinan, Governor Arnold I. Palacios, and Lt. Governor David M. Apatang recently recognized six individuals during the annual Governorโs Humanities Awards event.
This yearโs recipients are:

๐ต William J. Fife, III for Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in a Classroom Setting)
๐ต Carmen S. Taimanao for Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in a Non-Classroom Setting)
๐ต Deborah A. Fleming for Preservation of CNMI History
๐ต Milton F. Coleman, Jr. for Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices
๐ต Donald Mendiola for Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities
The NMHC Board of Directors also presented a board resolution to the family of the late Ivan K. Propst. His son and the 23rd CNMI Legislatureโs Floor Leader, Ed Propst, received the resolution on behalf of the family.
In his remarks, Governor Palacios urged those in attendance to promote the humanities in their households: โEncourage your children to read, explore the arts, and engage in critical discussions. Attend lectures, exhibitions, performances, and other activities that celebrate the humanities.โ
The governor emphasized that the humanities are not reserved exclusively for scholars, but something that we can participate in and incorporate into our everyday lives.
