Governor Torres commits $1 million to creation of NMC’s film program

Yesterday, Governor Ralph DLG. Torres at a welcoming event for Hollywood film producer Brad Krevoy announced that he is committing $1 million dollars to the Northern Marianas College (NMC) for the creation of their film program, in anticipation of the CNMI’s upcoming film industry, made possible with the partnership of Mr. Krevoy. 

2022 Tinian Energy Educational Awareness and Community Outreach Program Campaign Drive-Thru Distribution Event

The Department of Public Works, Energy Division Office will be hosting its “2022 Tinian Energy Educational Awareness and Community Outreach Program Campaign Drive-Thru Distribution Event”. With the continuing rise in fuel costs and utility rates in the Commonwealth, the Division of Energy will be promoting energy conservation to encourage implementation of energy measures to assist residents reduce energy use and save money by distributing 16-inch standing fans or LED light bulbs (10 ea.) to residential households.     

Managaha Pier Rehabilitation Project

The Department of Public Lands (DPL) would like to provide an update to the public on the status of Managaha Pier Rehabilitation Project. Tentatively, the completion for the environmentally and historically sensitive project is due by next year, May 2023. DPL recently acquired a one-year extension for the project by Costal Resource Management (CRM) – for period of September 30, 2022, to September 30, 2023. We anticipate, after approval of Change Work Order that is being routed and with complete and qualified documentations, the Department of Public Works (DPW)-Technical Service Division will issue Notice to Proceed (NTP) to the contractor to proceed with Managaha Pier Rehabilitation Project, within the nearest future.

Managaha Island Operations

The Department of Public Lands (DPL) would like to inform the general public that it continues to operate Managaha Island providing maintenance, janitorial services, lifeguards and daily security services until it finalizes and awards a master concessionaire. In the meantime, DPL has temporarily authorized several concessionaires for food and beverage, gift and retail merchandise and beach equipment rentals.

Lieutenant Governor David M. Apatang, together with Delbert T. Pua, Special Assistant for the Office of Youth Affairs, recently proclaimed October 2024 as Youth Empowerment Month. The proclamation was made in the presence of members of the Legislature, Cabinet officials, and community partners, all united in their commitment to improving the lives of our youth.
